July in Review

(well almost)

I can't believe we really are half way through the summer.  The weather has been wonderful here in New England, not that many humid days, in fact today it is 82, sunny and super low humidity as I relax on the deck.

A few weeks ago we celebrated my youngest granddaughter's 3rd birthday. I Can't believe how fast time has passed and, what a joy it's been to see these cousins grow up.

This past week we got away and visited, Newburyport, a seaside town in Massachusetts that we hadn't been to before. Gorgeous weather, lunch harbor side, long walks, quaint shops and a swim in the hotel pool made this our favorite getaway of the summer thus far.  Hope to get in a few more road trips in August.

My reading is definitely down this summer but, I did manage to finish (7) books (64 YTD).

My favorite books read in July were:

  1. The Leavers; Lisa Ko - 4/5 (library) July-2017
  2. The Lying Game; Ruth Ware - 4/5 - (eGalley) - July-2017
  3. Eleanor Elephant is Completely Fine; Gail Honeyman - 5/5 (audio) - July-2017
  4. The Best of Us: a memoir; Joyce Maynard - (eGalley) - 5/5 - July/2017
  5. Sea Change; Robert Parker - (audio) 2/5 - July/2017
  6. The Summer That Made Us; Robyn Carr - (eGalley) - 4/5 - July/2017
  7. I'll Take You There; Wally Lamb (arc) - 2/5 - July/2017

Hope everyone is having a wonderful summer!

  1. I'm sure my reading is down too, but we can't do it all. I hope to get to the Maynard book soon.

  5. July sounds like it was a good reading month. I can't believe it will be August on Tuesday; that means work starts up again for me in just a couple weeks.

  6. Diane, it sounds like you are savoring the summer! I would like to fit more reading in, but I'm enjoying the reading I've been able to do. Have a terrific week ahead!

  7. Grandkids are the best! Glad you had a fun trip to Newburyport, sounds like a fun place to visit!

  8. Nice to see you had a good month. You did some good reading too! Happy August!

  9. Your trip sounds so fun! I loved growing up with my cousins. The adventures! I hope you have a great week!

  10. 7 is a very healthy reading number! I haven't read any of the books you completed, but I do love the cover of Eleanor Oliphant! Happy August and happy reading.

  11. Summer's more than halfway over - school starts up again in 3 1/2 weeks! Not that I'm counting or anything...

I really enjoyed The Leavers - glad to see you liked it, too. Looks like a decent reading month for you, with a few big hits (and a couple of misses).

    Enjoy your books in August!

  12. How great that you are having a wonderful summer. The Best of Us was also one of my favorites in July. I got The Lying Game this past week.

Eleanor Oliphant looks like one I would enjoy.

  13. What great summer fun! I'm really interested in The Lying Game and a few others you've mentioned.

  14. I can't believe your youngest granddaughter can be three already!

  15. Glad to hear you are enjoying the summer!

  16. I wish it wasn't so humid here. Jealous. lol Happy birthday to your granddaughter!

  17. I have no idea why it's taken me so long to respond to your post. Yes, our summer has been not as hot or as dreadfully humid as some years (knock on wood!). I keep thinking that maybe we'll have a torrid September.
I was interested in Joyce Maynard's memoir and am wondering if I can bear the pain of reading it. I have a lot of beloved, much older cousins, older friends, and a husband 6 years my senior, and I'm struggling right now with how short-short-short life really is and how suddenly things can totally change, in a heartbeat. Sorry for the downer comment, but I guess that's why I'm reading Maisie Dobbs and Pride and Prejudice right now. Trying to ramp myself up!
I hope the rest of the summer will give you loads of FUN trips!
I'm planning on some of my own very soon. I'll blog about them.
    Best wishes to you!
